My New Home is a major new series which follows the stories of immigrant children over five years as they grow up, face their hopes and fears, and seek to integrate into their new communities in the UK. Featuring children from as far and wide as Pakistan, Zimbabwe and Kyrgyzstan, the series offers the immigrant perspective on life in Britain.
The first programme captures the children's very first impressions of their new country as they confront the obstacles and challenges of a foreign language, a different culture and a whole new way of life.
My New Home follows their growth and development through the eyes of others, focusing on the concerns of their parents as they watch their children adapt to British values and face issues such as child crime, teenage pregnancy and gang culture.
In focusing on these individual and personal stories, My New Home will provide a different angle on modern Britain as well as challenging attitudes towards immigration.
